Burak Özgen - General Counsel at GESAC

Burak Özgen is General Counsel at GESAC (European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers), which through its 32 members in EU/EEA represents more than 1 million creators from all artistic fields in the process of European law and policy making. He holds an LLM from Ghent University in Belgium, where he continued his further research on collective management of copyright, and was a visiting fellow at Columbia Law School's Kernochan Center for Law, Media and the Arts. He is a member of ALAI Belgian group ABA/BVA and regularly speaks at various conferences, public hearings of EU institutions and universities as guest lecturer. Before joining GESAC, Burak was legal and policy counsel to music companies and industry organisations from creative sector and took part in international projects such as “Fair Music Business Model”, “CELAS Pan-European licensing”, “Music Rights in Southern Africa” with different roles and responsibilities. He also worked at the European Commission’s Audio-visual and Media Policies Unit.
